Abarth Unique Car for the Brand's Tuning House

Abarth's long-rumoured standalone model has returned to the spotlight, with reports out of the US claiming that Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne has confirmed a unique car for the brand's tuning house.
While past reports have pointed to platform-sharing with the Fiat 500, the next Elise, KTM's X-Bow and - more likely - the Alfa Romeo 4C, America's Car & Driver claims we'll instead see a front-engined rear-driver from Abarth.

Speaking with the US magazine, Marchionne reportedly said that the new model, which has yet to be confirmed for final production, will deliver somewhere between 150 and 190kW - pointing to an engine in the 1.6 to 2.0 litre range.

If a purpose-built Abarth coupe does ever come to light, we can likely expect the car to draw its styling inspiration from the classic and rare-as-rocking-horse-dung 1968 Abarth Scorpione.
If that's the case, ultra-lightweight construction for the new Scorpione coupe will be on the menu - although it's unlikely to come anywhere close to the 670kg kerb weight of the original.

Abarth Punto SuperSport - Car News

This is the latest model released special edition SuperSport Punto Abarth. This Frankfurt-bound model is based off of the Punto Evo Esseesse showcased at the 2010 Paris Auto Show and features Grigio Campovolo two-tone livery along with other bells and whistles to warrant the special edition title.

The Abarth Punto SuperSport’s Grigio Campovolo paint job comes with a special matte black finish for the hood and roof, adding a little sport to small hatchback. The model is further customized with "supersport" graphics on the side panel, matte black mirror covers, and 18" alloy rims combined with red calipers and hub caps. The exhaust used in this special edition comes straight from the Esseesse model.

For the interior, Abarthhas added comfort and style with "Abarth Corsa by Sabelt" black leather seats with a gloss back backrest and a black leather steering wheel. These elements are then highlighted with double red and yellow stitching. Stainless steel pedals with Abarth branding and an Abarth Blue&MeTM MAP satellite navigation unit with a telemetric function developed in conjunction with Magneti Marelli add more spunk to the SuperSport model.http://www.zcars.com.au/images/fiat-grande-punto-abarth-ss-wallpaper1.jpg

Safety is also not an issue in this special edition as Abarth has added a modified suspension, floating, perforated and self-ventilated front disc brakes with over-sized four-piston red brake calipers, perforated rear disc brakes, high performance front brake pads, front and rear Koni shock absorbers with FSD (Frequency Selective Dumping) valve, and specially lowered springs.

Under the hood, Abarth has placed the same 1.4 Multiair engine found in the Esseesse to power the hatchback. This engine develops 180 HP at 5,750rpm and a peak torque of 199 lbs-ft at 2,500 rpm, allowing the car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 134 mph.
